UN T3 Peace Keeper - Engine Rebuild Proceeds

Jamie Gibson from Carmaster Mechanical has been undertaking the engine rebuild of my 1989 T3 Caravelle. It's a South African "JT3000" model, a commonly available upgrade in South Africa which included removing the 2.1 fuel injected VW motor and replacing it with a Ford Essex 3 litre V6 unit, with the benefit being bucket loads of torque. the upgrade could be ordered from new straight from your local VW dealer.

Yes Andy, top end rebuild. Bottom end looks solid, so that'll wait for another day. All in all this time around it's getting:

  • new lifters
  • Lifter faces re-profiled to suit cam lobes
  • new valve springs
  • new valve retainers & collettes
  • new intake/exhaust valves
  • heads have been ported and polished
  • custom cam shaft grind
  • new timing gear
  • new Pacemaker headers

I think that's about it. Build work should start later this week. More videos to come.

Gee, Bill, now tell us how you really feel.... ;o)

So isn't Jamie removing the motor from the car? Is it just a top end rebuild? I can see the exhaust system is better. What other mods, apart from aftermarket valve cover paint, is it having done?

From some peoples perspective the only bay that a Ford V6 motor should go is "Botany Bay" I understand that they have a special coating which prevents barnacles build up. They make a great boat anchor or mooring weight.
