Sadly Bill Moore, affectionately known as Country Buggy Bill, one of the founders of Volks Culture and all round great guy, passed away last Saturday evening. He was at home in Nowra and surrounded by family and friends.
Bill was always the dependable voice of reason, quick witted and a real pleasure to spend time with. He was a great friend.…
I was reading the paper and came across the ten best drives in Australia which gave me the inspiration for what will be a fantastic cruise for early next year. Many of you came on The Big Blue cruise to the Blue Mountains in January. Make way for The Big Snowy, cruise to the Snowy Mountains in January 2013 - weekend of 26-27. …
After a hectic week working in the Netherlands, I flew to Nice in France for a few days off in. What a first day! Edwin uncovered his Karmann Beetle and we hit the roads. First we travelled to a local historic village for breakfast and then on to Cannes where we spent the rest of the day. Wow, talk about lifestyles of the rich and famous. Check it out...
I feel a lot better after a good sleep. This morning Edwin and I took his 54 Beetle to the local mechanic to get the brakes looked at. The video shows some of the fun we had.
Old Bar is one of those staples as a Kombi enthusiast. I certainly feel drawn back every year, even with the promise of bad weather. Earlier this year I had bought a 76 Bay camper from Steve at Kombi Rescue, and had stripped out the original fit-out and set it up to suit our families requirements (see earlier blogs for details).
We decided a few extra days were on the cards so booked in from…
Hey all you cars/bike enthusiasts, 4WD's & Mini-truckers.
Forget all the rumours that have been floating around for the past couple of years, this time its for real. I have even got confirmation from a couple of the engineers that it looks like all systems go. UNLESS WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
The RTA is at it again trying on the sly to take away our right to modify our rides and if we dont act now and use people power by the… Continue

A few months ago I decided I wasn't going to miss another DOVW as I had only heard good things. The time approached rapidly, and before I knew it, it was 6:45am on Friday the 19th of November and I was being picked up by Steve Muller in the Kombi Rescue T5. After fuelling at the servo up the road and catching up with Ian and Adrian in the just completed Marcia June splitty panel, we headed off.
The Marcia June bus was a great looking rat style splitty panel and had just…
Most Australian’s, whenever they hear the word “Kombi” immediately picture the quintessential Bay Camper. For something that has such strong ties to public perception, I personally have never driven one, let alone experienced the entire Bay camping adventure. So, when I was given the opportunity by Stephen Muller (Kombi Rescue) to make the annual pilgrimage from Sydney to Old Bar in a Bay camper that he had up for sale, I jumped at the chance.…
After a 3,200km round trip the beetle and ghia are back at Mullerville, while away these two cars set some records, here is my quick summary of an exciting and eyeopening week away..
It was an early start Sarturday morning, plan was to drive for as long a possible, we all got away at about 5am, three T5's with 2 trailers. Steve and myself towing the Ghia, Greg and Bill with the beetle, Adrain and Edwin carrying some spare engines, tools and supplies. First fuel up just up…
reVOLKS started as Saturday morning get together coffee 4 years ago until it was suggested to run a cruise aswell So now we have a format of show to miidday cruise the bush and great ocean road and return to Torquay for overnight camp Then Breky and a small cruise to queenscliff and return to Geelong
Show was building nicely then Melburg luft cruis arrived in a spectacular display of 18 dubs
We had in total 40 vehicles with 20 doing cruise and a dozen stayed overnight
For me, the essence of the Old Bar Kombi Festival is friends, buses and salt air. No matter what the weather dishes up, you can be assured of lashings of the good stuff.
This was my third, and for many of us, the build-up happens over six months or more. So much time is spent getting your bus just right, and for the few weeks beforehand getting away is at the forefront of your mind.
This year, the forecast was worrying, and sure enough, we were in for a wet and blustery… Continue

Found the '67 Panel in March 2008, it sat around a bit till i got around to the rust repairs.
Sorted all the rust and nose & rear damage then 'sort of' matched the paint
The facilities at the park were great as was the camp site. But at some ungodly hour of the morning we were awoken by a member of camp staff who said a naked man had been roaming the park and had been escorted off the property. Then she demanded we make sure he wasn't one of our party! It was really rude and totally bizarre. Not surprising Carlyle, Dutchy and Nat didn't get much sleep after that. Here's Lobus taking a load off as we packed our Splits in the morning.… Continue
This trip was the last one I could do for at least a year due to family commitments. I decided I'd invite my mate Carlyle to ride shotgun as I thought I'd need a co-driver at some point. He used to own vintages VWs including a '62 SC but was forced to sell them for a family car and has missed them badly so the trip was a great boost for him. I actually live 2 hours south of Sydney so we met up with Dutchy, Nat, Dan and Dave at Goulburn South Maccas before continuing the journey toward… Continue
This is pretty long winded and I'm not exactly sure how blogs work but it describes the build that eventually put our daily driver, our '67 VW Type 2 Panel, on the road.
We originally bought the Panel from a fellow who lived on the Great Western Hwy in between Mt Druitt and St Marys in Western Sydney. He and his wife were moving, mainly because people kept on getting hit and killed on the road outside their house. His wife said "We're moving and the Kombi isn't coming with us," so it… Continue
While I managed to score some parts for the Panel over the next year or so there was no real progress until my wife and I moved out of Sydney in 2002 to spend a year in Orange. Here are some of the pics of the move to Orange:
Here's the Panel on a tilt tray leaving Kenards at Toongabbie.
And then arriving at our new place at Spring… Continue
