After coming back from the '09 VW Jamboree over the 21st-22nd March weekend I had an itching for another project. What I wanted was an early window bus but I didn't think that was likely, especially with my budget or lack there of. My missus had taken the '67 Panel on one of her chores around town and a couple of guys wandered up, as guys often do, and admired it. Then they commented that "so and so has one of these. Talk to Mike." That was obscure and so my wife found out who she'd been…

This my J&S buggy called, 'Zak'. I bought him as a basket case just over 10 years back now. Familiar story where the car was left with a VW specialist and the guy never came back.
Most of the car was cactus, in fact had I been smarter it would have been easier to start with a fresh body too, but oh well. I always seem to learn the hard way. I guess because the car was so rough, I…

The facilities at the park were great as was the camp site. But at some ungodly hour of the morning we were awoken by a member of camp staff who said a naked man had been roaming the park and had been escorted off the property. Then she demanded we make sure he wasn't one of our party! It was really rude and totally bizarre. Not surprising Carlyle, Dutchy and Nat didn't get much sleep after that. Here's Lobus taking a load off as we packed our Splits in the morning.…

This trip was the last one I could do for at least a year due to family commitments. I decided I'd invite my mate Carlyle to ride shotgun as I thought I'd need a co-driver at some point. He used to own vintages VWs including a '62 SC but was forced to sell them for a family car and has missed them badly so the trip was a great boost for him. I actually live 2 hours south of Sydney so we met up with Dutchy, Nat, Dan and Dave at Goulburn South Maccas before continuing the journey toward…

While I managed to score some parts for the Panel over the next year or so there was no real progress until my wife and I moved out of Sydney in 2002 to spend a year in Orange. Here are some of the pics of the move to Orange:
Here's the Panel on a tilt tray leaving Kenards at Toongabbie.
And then arriving at our new place at Spring…

This is pretty long winded and I'm not exactly sure how blogs work but it describes the build that eventually put our daily driver, our '67 VW Type 2 Panel, on the road.
We originally bought the Panel from a fellow who lived on the Great Western Hwy in between Mt Druitt and St Marys in Western Sydney. He and his wife were moving, mainly because people kept on getting hit and killed on the road outside their house. His wife said "We're moving and the Kombi isn't coming with us," so it…

Installed lowered springs which made the stance just right, although the ride quality suffered some (at least according to my wife).

When I bought my T3 from Kombi Rescue, it was a good, solid and standard.
Bought some AMG mags off eBay pretty cheap. Had to use Porsche wheel studs at rear and Audi A4 wheel bolts at front to make them fit. At the same time we installed heavy duty shocks and sway bars. The change in handling was extreme, although people still asked me if it was a sychro. I knew I'd have to do something about the ride height.…
