A big thanks to Greg Christie who was kind enough to give me a lift up to Lemon Tree Passage (North of Newcastle) where the car was located. Car ran fairly well on the way home, however I think it could do with a tune. Aside from that I could accelerate up every hill on the F3 without changing back once. Makes a nice noise too.
I was lucky enough to pick up a few extras with the vehicle:
- A spare fuel tank -
For sale
- 4 x black 15" Merc rims (with VW trims) -…

Good to see Doc's red panel (BIERDR) is on the front cover. Lots of interesting stuff this time including a story on Old Bar, words and photos supplied by yours truly...

Just put the money down on another T3. It's an '89 model Caravelle imported from South Africa, not in bad nick. Was originally a United Nations vehicle. It has a Ford 3.0 litre V6 mated to a reinforced VW 5 speed.
Some interesting extras include:
- UN numbers still on the roof
- Toughened glass all round
- A gun/document safe mounted under the back seat
- A pair of belly mounted long range fuel tanks
- Bracket on the rear window surround to mount a steal…

As usual I'm always on the search for subtle upgrades that don't hit the hip pocket too badly. Ended up going down to the local Auto Pro shop (thanks BAS) and for the princely sum of $10, got a 10m roll of adhesive black pin stripes. Kind of looks like it was a factory inclusion which is always nice...…

I spent the day at Freshwater Beach at Pilu, a great Italian restaurant, doing the photography for Steve Muller's (Kombi Rescue) wedding today. Both he and Rhonda had a very happy day surrounded by family on both sides. Rhonda looked stunning arriving in a gorgeous 60's factory Karmann convertible owned by Steve's brother Adrian.
A few light showers in the morning did nothing to dampen anyone's spirits with beautiful weather opening up just at the right time. The setting was just…

Journos from the local paper caught up with us when we were having lunch at Wingham the day after the Kombi Festival at Old Bar. After having a chat with us, they took some photos. I'm not sure why they decided to publish this one, maybe the controversy? Anyway, at least Volks Culture got a mention.…

Being school holidays and all I took my kids for a cruise to Deus Ex Machina in Camperdown. I though it might be a good venue for a Volks Culture breakfast cruise in early December. Very cool place.
The business is split up into three separate areas. Shop, workshop and cafe.
First of all we checked out the Deus bike and merchandise shop. Awesome hardware on display. These guys have a real old school attitude that would appeal to most…

For me, the essence of the Old Bar Kombi Festival is friends, buses and salt air. No matter what the weather dishes up, you can be assured of lashings of the good stuff.
This was my third, and for many of us, the build-up happens over six months or more. So much time is spent getting your bus just right, and for the few weeks beforehand getting away is at the forefront of your mind.
This year, the forecast was worrying, and sure enough, we were in for a wet and blustery…
