Volkswagen drag racing returns to Sydney Dragway on February 25th 2012 after an absence of 8 years. This will be Round 1 in the VWMA drag racing series, with the ever popular VW Warwick as Round 2 on September 29-30th.
Sydney Dragway is a quarter mile track allowing the Volksies to stretch their legs a little further and enjoy the privilege of competing on a world class international track. This event is a dial-your-own competition, allowing everyone from novice racer in their stock street registered vehicle to all-out drag cars to run at their own pace. It's not always the fastest that wins, but rather consistency and a good light.
The 2012 VWMA series welcomes back Mick Motors as major sponsor for both Sydney and Warwick. Mick Motors continuing support makes it possible for VWMA to run the series and bring this unique one-make racing event to Australian drag tracks.
On the following pages you will find racing information, event programme, pricing structure and registration pages, both online and PDF. Because this is the first time the VWMA series has run a round on a quarter mile event, please take the time to read through carefully the requirements for racing.
The programme and activities for the Sydney VW Drags on Saturday February 25th 2012 includes:
1. On the Friday evening (February 24th) before the event Dinos Pizzas will be hosting a casual VW show at their restaurant at Shop 16 Glenmore Park Town Centre from 7pm. This is open to all VWs, not just the drag racers, and VWMA will have spot prizes and raffles happening all evening. Centre Management at Glenmore Park Town Centre have also opened up the mall to the first 30 VWS to park inside right near the action.
2. A car show will be running in the pit area from 9am until 5pm, culminating in a twilight cruise up and down the return road of the 1/4 mile track. VWMA has prepared some unique trophies for the show'n'shine and entry is included as part of your gate fee for the event.
3. The PDRN will hold a round of their RC Drag Racing Championship during the VW racing programme. The PDRN club has also graciously extended the use of their equipment during their tea break in the evening to allow any VW RC drag racers the opportunity to have a go with their own VW RC cars. So bring those VW RC cars along to the event, adults and kids alike and have some scaled down fun! VWMA will have a few prizes to hand out to those competing.
4. The band 'No Brakes' will be playing from 9pm until late in the main marquee, after trophy presentations. Refreshments and food are BYO. Enjoy the evening and relax to some great live music.

Comment by Greg Christie on February 15, 2012 at 20:47 I might make it down to this as I would love to take photos. Just to confirm general public admittance is after 9:00 am on Saturday the 25th?

Comment by Ash on February 15, 2012 at 7:56 This is shaping up to be a great event. The Ratmuller Racing team will have a four of their cars on display including the Roo Shooter, Salt Taxi and the orange Ghia (holds Australian record for fastest VW at Speed Week) .

Comment by Ash on February 10, 2012 at 7:56 Looks like Steve Muller will be racing the Roo Shooter bus here. He got a best of 14.1 last time. Would be great to see a 13 second bus (still running a VW engine) in Australia.
